Uploading PDFs

Formstamper works with fillable PDF forms — documents that contain AcroForm fields you can type into. These are commonly used for government forms, legal notices, contracts, and standardized business documents.

warning

If your PDF doesn't contain fillable form fields, Formstamper won't be able to detect any mappable areas. You can check if a PDF is fillable by opening it in Adobe Acrobat or a similar reader and trying to type in the fields.

How to Upload

  1. Navigate to Templates in the sidebar.
  2. Click Create New Template.
  3. In the Template Creator, click the Upload PDF button or drag and drop your file.
  4. Formstamper processes the document and:
    • Renders a visual preview of each page.
    • Extracts all AcroForm field metadata (name, type, position).
    • Generates a thumbnail for the template listing.

File Requirements

  • Format: .pdf only
  • Max size: 50 MB
  • Fields: Must contain at least one AcroForm interactive field
  • Pages: Multi-page PDFs are fully supported

After Upload

Once your PDF is processed, you'll see:

  • A paginated preview of the document with zoom controls.
  • Colored field boxes overlaid on each detected form field.
  • A sidebar with the Field Mapping panel listing all detected fields.

Each field box is clickable — selecting it opens the mapping configuration where you can assign data columns, set static values, or mark the field to be ignored.

tip

If you need to replace the PDF later (e.g., a new version of a government form), you can re-upload without losing your existing field mappings — as long as the field names in the new PDF match the old ones.
